Cocktail #1 Rum Punch

28 Dec 2014

The best part of the holidays are, we get to try new food and beverages. One drink that really stood out on my Dad's special Christmas menu was, a cocktail called 'Rum punch'. Now we didn't have different types of rum and all, so we did our version of a rum punch which was simple and the ingredients are easily available, so you can recreate it at home easily.
My father told me to remember 1 2 3 4,
That is;
1 cup of lime juice.
2 cups of sugar.
3 cups of rum (we used old monk).
4 cups of orange juice (it goes good with old monk)
Shake these in a shaker and according to how strong or mild you want it you can add water. Shake it with ice or shake it and pop it in the fridge. garnish it with a slice of lime or sweet lime on the glass.
TIP: Turn your spoon up side down and pour rum slowly over it so that it floats on top.
Serve it in a tall glass.

Motivational Videos

27 Dec 2014

2015! The New year will start with new promises and new resolutions. It will be tough to stick to our resolutions and though breaking them seems like something that has to be done, this year we will not give up that easily. I have compiled a list of motivational videos that can inspire you just a little bit more and help you get what you aim for. As Buddha says "No matter how hard the past, you can always start again" , so let's get it started!

Angel Richardson:
A great video to start your year filled with goals. She generally speaks about the importance of writing your goals, vision boards, and many other topics that really makes sense. this video is about things you need to do before 2015.
See the video here.

Steve jobs:
If you want to try something new and always find a way to avoid it, this is a perfect video for you. He keeps his speech interesting by sharing three anecdotes.
See the video here.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie:
Her speeches are witty. In this video she speaks about having a single story. It is more educational in a way, but practising what she says makes life a bit better.
see the video here.

Ezra Frech:
Truly inspirational and a really, really cool kid. I do not want to say much but if you are reading this you just have to watch this video where he appeared on Ellen.
See the video here.

I hope you all enjoy watching the videos and have a great new year prep.

Christmas Decorations DIY

22 Dec 2014

These are some last minute Christmas decorations I came up with, which will look amazing as a centre-piece for your table or on a book shelf. I saw some mason jar decoration ideas on Pinterest and logged on to Amazon to see if I can buy one, but the price was extremely high, so I decided to use large 'Dabur' honey jars and it worked perfectly.
I took the lid off and filled the first jar with some red pomegranate tree hangings and then some golden ones and then added a big golden ball (all of these were leftover Christmas tree decorations ). To top it off, I tied a ribbon with a bell hung on to it. In the second jar I stuffed a tinsel and dropped in some red pomegranate tree hangings (I have no idea what role a pomegranate plays in Christmas but it's fine as long as it looks good). For the third piece of decoration, I took a silver tray dropped a tinsel on it, kept two glass reindeers that looked adorable, two red star hangings, a small wreath. I kept a clear Whisky cup on the tray and filled it with golden Christmas tree hangings. That is it, three easy affordable last minute Christmas decoration DIY ideas.

An App Idea

12 Dec 2014

I was just watching TheFineBros on YouTube and came across some "react" videos, where PewDiePie shuts down his comments section, Amanda Todd had plenty of hate comments after going through a very tough time of cyber bullying (it is sad that she is no more)and many such stories were shared. Some action has to be taken to stop cyber bullying.

Just think of it, you post a video on YouTube, you get 7 good comments and 3 really hurtful comments. Those three comments will bother you no matter what and I bet your day would have been better if you did not read that and focused on the good things people had to write.
My little app idea was that if every social website had a positive and negative bar below every comment like the 'like and dislike' buttons on YouTube and then depending on the no. of  +'s or -'s the comments can be arranged. The comments should be in the order of descending no. of +'s and then ascending no. of negatives after all the positive comments are listed above it (I hope you understood what I am trying to say).
This is a kiddish idea and we won't get to read all the spicy comments but it will at least be encouraging for people who want to put themselves out there on the internet and a little positivity will be added in our lives because believe it or not the internet is a big part of out daily life so why not stride to make a positive change. Even if it is small.
I have posted after such a long time because of my semesters and the post is not related to anything I usually post about but this was something I really wanted to put out, just to encourage anyone who reads this that small things we do to improve anything matters even if it is for 1 person, it matters. After all, amazing things are done with small changes.

Update

18 Nov 2014

Hey guys! This is just going to be a short post, to let you know what is going on "because we are friends and friends share everything". I am so tired and sleepy right now but I have to write this because if I do not write now I won't be able to talk to you all till the Tenth of December. I gave my first paper today (Exams!) and my examinations will continue till Tenth :( A month long journey. I wish I could Post, I get new ideas about what to post and I am so often tempted to leave all my studies and do this but I can't. I have to embrace the path I chose and be glued to it till it is done. I hope this makes sense. I'll be sleeping now and will continue studying tomorrow. Please pray that my hard work pays of because if it doesn't it's F'in annoying, you know this feeling. Good night everyone and do whatever makes you happy and satisfied (words of wisdom). I should go now before this gets weird.
 Good Night!

Blogging Tips

9 Nov 2014

In recent years, Bloggers have grabbed the "internet limelight". More and more people have been starting their Blogs now-a-days  and the best part about the word wide web is that it gives every Blog equal attention. If you have ever thought of starting a Blog or started a Blog but have no idea what to do, I have jotted down some tips and tricks that will help you.

#1: The Start
While starting a blog you have to decide what platform you want to base your blog on. This is the first advise given out by any blogger which makes it an important one. Depending on your knowledge of coding, web designing, etc. you can choose your blogging platform. I would recommend blogger.com ie. blogspot for people with least IT knowledge as it makes blogging user friendly and rather easier to understand as it does not involve coding to a higher level and if you want to custom code, it is possible on blogger.com. Another option is wordpress.com or you can get your own URL.

#2:The Name
Pick a catchy Name and a URL. This becomes necessary when you let people know about your blog. You do not want it to be a whole sentence, as it can be quite a mouthful. Try to keep the name Short, Simple and Easy.

#3: Topics
Write on topics you are really passionate about. This has been my biggest lesson. You might feel that writing about something that is a hot topic right now will give you more readers or PR's will come to you with their free goodies. This does not happen, when you try to write about something that you do not give much importance to, because it shows in your writing. My advise would be to write something that you would like to read or consider your blog a small space where you would want to share things you like.

#4:Readers are Important
You need to write for your readers. I know this may oppose my previous tip, but you have to meet it half-way. If you are writing for page-views, try and write about something that will be helpful to your readers and will keep them interested in your blog-posts.

#5: Layout
Layout is important, as most of the viewers will want to wait a bit if your layout is attractive. Make sure that your background where you post your article is white and keep your font simple, which makes it easier to read. Remember even though your layout should look good, the content is what matters the most.

#6: Photography
If you decide to post photos on your blog, make sure the lighting is proper and whatever you want to display is visible easily. Crop your images, so that it looks presentable. Try to avoid using your camera flash as it makes the photos look gaudy, natural light is highly recommended.

#7:Your Blog
Finally remember your blog is 'YOUR BLOG' you are the one controlling it. Do not compare it to other blogs and do not give up writing if you don't receive as many views as you wished. "Good things happen to those who wait", so be patient an just enjoy writing.

Red Box

5 Nov 2014

We had an amazing time at 'The Red Box'. The food was yum, strong on the palate and stomach filling. This restaurant serves food that does not bloat you and make you feel thirsty, I thought I'll mention that first because I hate it when I come back home bloated due to excess ajinomoto. Red Box gives you a high dining experience and really good mocktails ,oh I love them! We sat down for a three course meal and out of the three, our favourite part was obviously the desert. My favourite was the New York cheesecake and the lemon cheesecake. The chocolate truffle was good but the cheesecakes stole my heart. The restaurant does not follow a particular cuisine type, although the interior decoration had a Japanese theme going on with red walls and black sofas. The overall experience was amazing and worth every penny.

Christmas Canvas Paintings

4 Nov 2014

My favourite holiday is hands down Christmas, but unfortunately because of my tight schedule and a month long semester I miss out on the preparation part of it. This year my sister Sam and I decided to start a bit earlier, so we have enough time to do everything ourselves and be ready with out studies too. We made a list of what all we want to do this Christmas and I will be sharing all our Decor', DIY's, Quick easy recipes with you all, I know this is going to be an early Christmas post, but if any of you face the same problem as I do, of semesters clashing with your prep time, I hope this helps you.
Going ahead with the post, we decided to paint this time. We wanted to incorporate small canvas boards on shelves, tables, etc. to have a little bit more of a Christmas feel. This was our first time doing this and we had a blast doing the bell painting, that is the third picture. We did the bell painting together and it turned out to be pretty good. The first two paintings were done by Sam. Our theme colours for Christmas is basic - red, gold, black and white. We wanted the paintings to be simple and Pinterest is great for ideas. We got a bunch of them and went ahead with the first two paintings. The bell painting which I hope is amazing was our idea.We cut out a bell and hung it over an abstract canvas painting. We were lazy to cut out details on a mount-board so we just drew them in.
Things we used for out abstract painting:
Piece of sponge or foam
Acrylic paints in the shade Crimson red and gold.
Water
Desired size of canvas board
We started out by applying red colour to the canvas using the foam. While doing this make sure you are moving your hand to form a uniform texture on the canvas. Later we smudged in the Golden colour (do not go overboard with the golden colour). That is it. You can cut out different shapes on a mount-board and hang it over your canvas.
I hope this has helped you. Have an awsome day!

Twist and Top Hairstyle

1 Nov 2014

Ohhhh... this is not neat or was I going for a rough look. That's a secret you'll never know. XOXO Gossip girl. I'm so sorry, the first line is so umnn...you know. Anyway I am extremely excited and happy as I am finally posting a hairstyle post, my most viewed post is My Sock Bun and the second most viewed is Autumn hairstyle. So, as per the demand I decided to 'Just Do It'.  I love this hairstyle and I have seen it many times on Pinterest but unfortunately I never found it's name so I decided to name it 'TnT' Twist and Top Hairstyle.
This hairstyle is easy, you will require many rubber bands and a hairspray or any sea-salt spray. I did not use a hair spray, hence the rough look. I made a puff, to set my fringe behind. I took a "bunch" of my hair on each side twisted it or twirled it, and tied both the twirled bunch together. Repeat this with the lower sections of your hair now. I made three sections, so if you do the same you will have three ponytails. Put the top most pony between your head and rubber band and pull it down, do the same with the other two pony tails. When you have all of your hair down braid it. you can refer to the pictures for a better understanding.
Enjoy!

My Top Five Lipsticks

30 Oct 2014

These are the five lipsticks I am currently using and loving. 'My top five lipstick' blog has been on my blog list forever and I am happy I can finally do it. I have been wearing a lot of lipsticks in darker shades, and as you can see among the top 5 lipsticks three of them are dark and pretty bold . Starting from the left My top five lipsticks are:
Elizabeth Arden
(in the shade Petal 18)
The packaging of this lipstick is amazing. The rose gold case matches the light pink shade of the lipstick and just makes it shine. The texture of the lipstick is glossy and the shade is as it is named, like a pink rose Petal. This colour might look simple but the pink really stands out.

Makeup Revolution
(in the shade Reckless)
This is personally my favourite Lipstick. The colour stands out and it is moderately glossy. By moderately glossy I mean, it is not too glossy where your hair sticks to your lips  when it flies across your face. If you use a tissue, place it over your lips and brush powder over it (a foundation blush is perfect for the job) , it gives a matte effect. This Lipstick stays on the whole day, it does not come off easily. I highly recommend it.

NYX
(in the shade Sparkling beige)
I got this lipstick in my Fabbag and it perfectly matched my skin tone. It is sparkly and perfect when you want your lips to stand out with a nude colour. The texture is glossy and it makes your lips pop.
This Christmas you will see me wearing this often.

Oriflame
(Warm Rust & Baked Brick)
These lipsticks are very pigmented and leaves a strong colour when you put it on but it fades away in 3 to 4 hours so it has to be reapplied if you are wearing it to office or college. The texture is slightly less glossy than the Makeup Revolution. I apply a lip balm first and then put it on. The colours are pretty unique and perfect for winter.

These are my top five October lipstick. Enjoy!
:)

Diwali =)

26 Oct 2014

Before Diwali ended, I really wanted to do a Diwali related post because it is Diwali. You can see how excited I am, as I used the word Diwali multiple times in the first line itself. Anyway, I decided to keep this blog post simple and it could get a little chatty but it was better than my previous idea of writing about Diwali Facts...(It would have been boring for you and me!). My Diwali usually begins with a Google Search for "Easy Rangoli Designs" and as you can see in the pictures above, my sister and I ended up making these designs which took us over an hour because we get distracted really easily and end up dancing on some song going on. So, staying on the topic, we created two lovely (slightly immature looking but great) Rangoli. Later on, we decided to have our Lunch at 'Red Box', on which a review will surely be coming up. We had a great time, the Lunch was perfect for Diwali.

On Diwali it is mandatory to visit your relatives and exchange Sweets. I never miss this because I get a chance to dress up and hog on all the traditional Mithai (sweets). This time I wore a Magenta coloured Anarkali, which looks purple in all my pictures (a big downer ). It was quite heavy but all the sweets gave me strength. The lovely Mehendi  or Hena design on my hand was made by my sister and I loved it. There is a picture of me posing for a selfie showing it off. This year I decided to go eco-friendly and not burst any crackers or fireworks, which made Tizzy (my pet dog) really happy. Putting it all together I had an amazing Diwali, I hope you did too.

Highway Gomantak

23 Oct 2014

Personally I am not a Fish person, it is because of the fish-y taste you get when you eat a fish curry or something similar to it. Many people enjoy eating fish, but not me. However HIGHWAY GOMANTAK changed my mind completely. Highway Gomantak is a seafood restaurant located at Bandra East. It is a small restaurant with simple infrastructure and interior, The limited seating and large demand creates a problem though, as the waiting period can stretch upto an hour. They do not take reservations, and something that I did not like is they do not list names and just take people in randomly. People still wait because the food is worth it.

I did not want to go hardcore fish so I ordered a Mutton Thali which was amazing and spicy (not mouth burning spicy but the correct amount of spicy ). Thali is the best option if you want to eat like a proper plate of traditional Maharashtrian food. Everything we ordered was amazing, I'll list my order at the end. The best thing we ordered there was the sweet dish 'Kharvas' (which is like a sweet steamed milk pudding and it is eaten cold). If you ever go to Highway Gomantak , you have to taste their kharvas, it was amazing and one of the best sweet-dishes I have ever eaten. It is perfect after a heavy meal.
My order:
Mutton thali
Prawns thali
Prawns fry
bombil (bombay duck) fry
Kharvas
:)

Study Tips

13 Oct 2014

My Mid-Semester examinations will be beginning tomorrow. Being in a studious mood I thought, I might share some study tips with you all.
Photo from google

#1- Day or Night Person....
  • You know yourself better than any one else.
  • If your a day person, prepare your schedule the previous night. As soon as you get up you need to start studying ASAP, because by noon, you will tend to get bored .
  • If you're a night person, you can prepare you schedule during the day.
  • The schedule should consist of the chapter your going to do, subtopics, and time slot for every subtopic.
  • See that you give enough time to complete each topic not more or less.
#2 - Timed study
If you cannot study continuously and start procrastinating (Thinking about what you will do further but end up doing nothing) study straight for 25 minutes and then take a 5 minutes break (You can later  extend your working time).
TIP: When you're extremely sleepy (like "can't keep you're eyes open" sleepy) then take a power nap of 20 minutes, its really effective trust me! (Science behind the 20 min power nap click this link>POWER  NAP )

#3 - DISTRACTIONS away
Keep your distractions far far away! Depending on what gets you distracted easily, act on it.
Unplug the TV, remove your SIM card from your phone ...blah blah blah. You know what to do!

#4 - Focus
Finally man up and study there is no other way to do it
TIP: Make notes for revision it's helpful.

#5 - Reward yourself
After a task, reward yourself. I follow this by eating a big bowl of my favorite Banana Split.

And that's it.
!HAPPY STUDIES!
:)

Autumn Makeup Haul

11 Oct 2014

This season I decided to go bold. Autumn, being all about bold dark colors, I dared to pick some shades that would stand out. For my lips I went in with the reds and maroons, for my eyes I picked up a palette with autumn-y colors and YES glitter was on my list. On the contrary I wanted to go subtle with my cheeks, so I picked up a Mild Cherry colored blush.

Product Names:

Eyeshadow - Makeup Revolution London Iconic2 Redemption palette
Eyeliner - The One by Oriflame (Gel pen Eyeliner)
Blush - VeryMe by Oriflame (Cherry my cheeks)
Lipsticks:
Makeup Revolution London (in the shade Reckless)
Oriflame (shades - Baked Bricks & Warm Rust)
Lip balm - Honey Hut (Strawberry Surprise)

Sock Bun {Autumn Hair #2}

8 Oct 2014

I am loving autumn, and enjoying all the different styles I get to try. The sock bun is one of the easiest hair buns and you are literally using a sock to create the bun. To create this look all you have to do is, wrap a sock around your ponytail, evenly cover it with your hair, secure it with a rubber-band. Take the hair that is left loose  and twirl it around the bun.

Skin care routine {acne prone skin}

5 Oct 2014

#1. Always wash your face with cold water, twice a day.
(The face wash that I use is 'Karacnyl' for acne prone skin.
Cetaphil gentle face wash is another one that I highly recommend)

#2. Moisturize your skin daily.
(Break outs are caused due to excess sebum on your face, which is released to    compensate for the lack of moisture in your skin cells)

#3. Exfoliate once a week.
(Home made scrubs are really easy to make, here is a link to help you make your own easy scrub)

#4. Face masks - once a week
(TBS's tea tree face mask cleanses your pores and is amazing for acne prone skin)

#5. Hydrate yourself.
(Drinking water regularly can have a massive effect on your skin. 8 cups of water a day           is a must)
